The Little Flower: Daily Mass Homily--Wednesday, October 1st, 2014

We continue our powerhouse week of saints and angels!
The remarkable fact about our saint of the day—St. Therese of Lisieux—is she was self-admittedly unremarkable.  She didn’t have the stigmata.  She wasn’t a mystic.  She wasn’t called to be in the limelight of the world.
Yet what made her remarkable is that she did everything—even the simple things of life—with exceptional love.  As she struggled to discern her vocation she realized that her vocation was simply to love—and she did this as a member of the Carmelites.
My favorite anecdote from her life deals with a relationship she formed with another sister.  In her journal she stated she didn’t care for this woman for a variety of reasons.  Rather than judging, rejecting or avoiding this sister, she made a special effort to reach out to her.  She did so to such a degree that this sister thought she was the best friend of the Little Flower!
As she desired to spend her life in heaven doing good on earth (including praying for a notorious murder who was later converted), let us ask St. Therese to pray that we may love greatly in small things.
St. Therese of Lisieux, pray for us!
