Daily Mass Homily: September 19th, 2012

I was wrong yesterday at Mass when I said there would be no school kids present.  I had thought all of our students would be at the DACS Mass at the Cathedral, but I guess there wasn't enough room for our Kindergarten and 1st Grade classes.  We are blessed to have them with us this morning!
The Mass yesterday went very well.  Some of our students helped read the intercessions and Bishop gave us a special shout out as he used our birthday card we gave him in his homily.  It was a blessing seeing hundreds of our students gather to worship!
Before I quiz the kids, who hear had our first reading [1 Corinthians 13] at their wedding?  It is a popular choice as it is one of the most descriptive poems of all time speaking about love.  "Love is patient...kind..."
In school we have been learning about one of the ways we show love.  Who can tell me the word we have been talking about?  [Dignity]  In what ways do we show love and dignity to others?  [various answers]
Our Kindergarteners and 1st graders have been learning about treating God with dignity in His house.  What have we been learning?  [bless ourselves with Holy Water, genuflect, keep hands folded during Mass, etc.]  We treat God with dignity because He loves us so much and we have the blessing to coming to His house.
It sounds cliche, but dignity and love to our neighbor is the answer for everything.  Whether we disagree with someone in politics, hear a rumor about ourselves, or simply can't stand somebody, we are called to love as Christ did.  We are called to love our enemies as Christ did.
