Prophets Class Notes

A prophet is not a fortune-teller.  While prophesying events--especially the coming of Jesus Christ the Messiah--is part of the role of a prophet, the most important characteristic is to proclaim the Word of God and remind people to be faithful to our good and loving Lord.  The canonical prophets (those who wrote books of the Bible) always cropped up when the Israelite nation was in need of such reminders.  We frequently speak of the three four major prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel) and the twelve minor prophets (Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi).  Here are the corresponding class notes:
