Daily Mass Homily: Thursday, March 7th, 2013

A consistent theme of the Old Testament is the reality that we sin yet that God is willing to forgive us.  The fact is, everyone in the Bible (save Jesus and Mary) sinned. Yet some turned to God for forgiveness, allowing His mercy to soften their hearts.  Others chose to let their hearts continue to be hardened.  Jeremiah states: “But they obeyed not, nor did they pay heed.  They walked in the hardness of their evil hearts and turned their backs, not their faces, to me.”
Just like the people in the Bible, all of us have sinned.  Will our hearts be hardened by our sin, or melted by God’s mercy?
Come to confession to allow God to crack the hardness of your heart that comes from your sins.  Let today be the day you hear his voice and come to be forgiven.  For indeed, it is the finger of God—not mine—that will absolve you.  It is the voice of God—not mine—that you will hear in the confessional.  And your heart will be softened each time you come.
