The Holy Spirit as unifier, enlightener and enabler: 8th Sunday of Easter: Pentecost

Listen to the homily here.

Notes:

John 20:19-23
·      Jesus Christ risen
·      Father: “Peace be with you.  As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
·      Holy Spirit: “Peace be with you…And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.”
The Pentecost: 50 days after Easter, the Holy Spirit was given to the first members of our Church
·      When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together.  And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were.”
Each of you: baptized brothers and sisters have received the Holy Spirit
·      Jesus is in heaven leading our family in a war against evil
·      He sends the Holy Spirit to give us courage, talents, gifts
·      Each of us are different parts of the body of Christ
I am reading a book: “In His Spirit: A Guide to Today’s Spirituality”
·      By Fr. Richard J. Hauser, S.J.
·      Wrote in 1982
·      Dynamic Catholic Book
Three words that has helped me to focus on the Spirit
·      Unifier, enlightener and enabler
·      Unifier
o   Union and love
o   The Holy Spirit is the bond between our Father and Son
o   He unifies our families, churches, Catholic Church, Jesus Mystical body
o   He shows us spiritual love: “to will the good of another
o   This unifies us with God and our neighbors
·      Enlightener
o   A guide
o   The prick of our conscience
o   With any good action: Mass, confession, prayer, works, service
§  The Spirit was the One to bring us there!
o   The gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord
·      Enabler
o   Strength to serve God and our neighbor
o   He shows us our mission
§  Holiness
§  Marriage, ordained or religious life
§  Your job

Check out this book as it shares our spiritual lives, our jobs for God and our neighbors, and it is filled with the Word of God throughout it
