(Listen to this homily here).
“Let us go rejoicing
to the house of the Lord.”
We
praise God that, as we begin this season of Advent, we continue to come to the
house of the Lord. Many of you do
this every day, coming to the Lord’s house with rejoicing.
The
Lord makes a promise in this touching story of a Gentile’s faith: “Amen, I say to you, in no one is Israel have
I found such faith. I say to you,
many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven.”
There’s
a hidden message in this Gospel about ministry to the Gentiles—non Jews. We can apply this to our own experience
today. Right now there are many
men and women, children and families, who are starving for God’s love. Many of them don’t know this is what
they long for, but they do nonetheless.
Our
mission is to continually invite these souls to come and see Jesus. You know who they are. Like a good hockey team who keeps throwing
shots on net, consistently invite people to Church, hear the Good News and hear
how God has impacted your own life.
In a special way, be sure to let people know about our mission this
week.
Please
God, may we help many more people in our community go rejoicing to the house of
the Lord.
