Invest in God: Daily Mass Homily--Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

God is the only thing in the world where what you invest is returned.
In college, my brother saved his money to buy a car.  It was one of those sporty punk cars—low to the ground with a spoiler.  He paid it off himself and found out that he bought a dud.  He probably put more money into that car than he purchased it for to start with.  Not a good investment.
Between my freshman and sophomore year at CSS, I put 700 miles of running into my offseason training.  (This is an average amount for distance runners).  The next year I only improved my five-mile time by seven seconds.  While the running itself was great, I didn’t get out of my training what I had hoped—one hundred miles per one-second improvement!
God is always a good investment.  My favorite quote from Pope Benedict XVI came when he addressed young men and women: “Do not be afraid to give God everything.  He asks for nothing yet gives everything in return.”
Today Peter reminded the Lord what he and the disciples gave up.  Jesus promised that they would receive a hundredfold both on earth and in heaven.
As we are on the eve of Lent, may this season be one in which we invest in God 100%.
