Read Tobit!: Daily Mass Homily--Tuesday, June 4th, 2013

We learned one of the most important lessons in all of the Bible in our first reading—never sleep under birds!
Tobit is a fun read and if you have never read it, please do.  It is short enough to read in one sitting.  Tobit is a story that centers on two facts.  First, God’s providence directs and supports lives.  Today Tobit became blind, yet this is for God’s glory as we will continue to see.  Similarly, we will soon hear of a woman named Sarah whose seven husbands were killed by a demon.  God sends His angel Raphael to grant healing in both cases.
Second, we are encouraged to love God above all else and our neighbor as ourselves.  As we continue reading from Tobit, notice how Tobit exemplifies loving God and neighbor.
God’s providence and our response to God and each other out of love is what Tobit is based.  May we live our lives today with each.
