Bible Study: Parish Bulletin--9-14-14

One of the greatest passions in my faith, priesthood and life in general is the Bible.  At a retreat in high school I was inspired to make a goal: read my Bible every day.  To date I have done this.  I encourage you to do the same.  It isn’t hard—just pick up the Good Book for five minutes a day—the time it takes one set of commercials to run in a sitcom!
In major seminary I was blessed to study the Bible at an academic level.  I received my Masters in Theology focusing on Scripture and this experience truly enriched how I approach the Bible in prayer and study.
I want to share what I have learned about the Bible with you.  As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, the sole purpose of my blog is to do this.  I also take homily preparation seriously and hope that God speaks to you through His Word in my preaching.
Last year I developed a Bible study called “The Greatest Story Ever Told” as I worked with college students at the College of St. Scholastica.  The students enjoyed it and I will begin offering this study here soon.  My goal is to present the overall picture of the Bible—the Story—in an accessible way.  I will provide succinct summaries of the books of the Bible and attempt to show how they fit in the overall narrative.  Along the way we will cover how to read and pray with Scripture, learn how the Old Testament foreshadows the New and the New Testament fulfills the Old and discern how the Scriptures found our faith, morals and sacramental life of the Church.
I am excited to begin offering this weekly Bible study on Tuesday, September 23rd and in the weeks to follow.  We will meet in the church basement at 7:00pm—please come if you are able!
God bless!
