Epiphany with some Science and Gifts

Notes:

Epiphany = the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi

Science:

·     Science vs. Scientism

o  Globe: Galileo—a monk

o  Big bang: George Lemaitre—French priest

o  Evolution: Darwin—Anglican a clergy man *(who eventually did leave faith!)

·     Science and faith

o  Or reason and faith that are connected with each other

·     What about these Magi?

o  They were not Jewish, but Gentiles, like us

o  And, they didn’t have a GPS and they were many, many miles away

o  By using astrology, they were dang close to where Jesus was?

o   Well, the Jewish leaders showed their faith, reading in a prophet, Micah: “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days.”

Like these magi, we must learn how to give things away, especially to Jesus Christ!

·     Gold

o  Kings: Servers

o  But also the gold, treasury that we have to give away!  10%?  Stewardship

·     Frankincense

o  Priests: worship, pray

·     Myrrh

o  Serving the sick, those who have died, serving at a funeral

o  Also, speak with your loved ones now to prepare for death
