Parish Bulletin Article: "4th Sunday in Advent and Christmas": 12-24-17

4th Sunday in Advent

I always enjoy writing my bulletin articles, especially during essential seasons in our liturgical calendar.
Today, I hope that all of our parishioners and visitors can be able to go both to the last moments in Advent and celebrate on Christmas.  As these Masses are very close, they are still two different liturgies, and we do not have a “twofer”!
Thus, please finish towards the finish line in Advent.  Take even more time to be in silence, prayer, confession and serve others.  I believe that this will only enhance your experience in Christmas, just a few hours away.

Christmas!

Praise God to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, our King, brother, friend, and savior again.  I hope that God’s house will be packed with His family, your family and our family.
Here is an interesting stat for you on this beautiful moment in your life.  Mass through Christmas Eve (Sunday evening) and Christmas (Monday) will take place for about an hour in our Church.  One hour!  Do you know how many hours we have during the whole year?  8,760 hours.  This powerful moment is thus one-hundredth of one percent of your life: 0.01%.
Do you know that if you went to every weekend Mass (52) as well as obligatory Masses (6) is only sixty-six tenths of one percent of your life: 0.66%.
While you may not enjoy math, numbers or stats, I would like you to think about how much time you have with each day, each week, each month and each year.
My point is to make on this festivity: the time in Masses during the year pales to your time with your job, your television, your cell phone, your hobbies or anything else.  I would like you to think and discern how much time you can give to God by coming to Mass, which is a smidgen in your whole life.
I would also propose that when you offer just one hour a week by coming to our King’s house with His Kingdom and with His family, it will change your life.
Know that you are always welcomed to St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Columban parishes because God is the BEST!

Merry Christmas!
