Many of us last night lost power for a bit. It made me count my blessings as I
fumbled around through the dark rectory before finding a flashlight. And even then it was difficult to see. At one point I remember thinking to
myself, “What if I was blind and lived like this all the time?”
Darkness
was the reality for the two blind men in the Gospel. They cried out, “Son of David, have pity on us!” Jesus, fulfilling the prophecy in
Isaiah—“And out of gloom and
darkness, the eyes of the blind shall see…”—cures
them both.
In
so doing Jesus proves to be literally our "light and our salvation".
